Oak Trees

$20.00

Oak trees are majestic. Acorns are a high-value food source for wildlife, including deer, making oak trees excellent for those interested in attracting them to a landscape. Humans also have a long history of eating acorns, although this requires the tannins be removed. Established oaks are some of the most drought-tolerant trees we can grow.

We are offering a few species of oaks this year and plan on expanding our offering in the future. These one-year-old trees are mostly between 1 and 2 feet tall. As a taprooted species, their smaller size makes them more ideal for successful transplanting.

The seeds these trees were grown from were all sourced locally from old, proven trees.

A long time local told me about a particularly fast-growing oak tree they had on their farm and suggested it was a hybrid Garry Oak. It is hard to tell with oaks, but I think these have predominantly english oak genetics. Regardless, seedlings from this tree grew more than three times faster than pure Garry, english or any other Oak in my nursery. The mother tree is growing in a fence row near an old nursery towards town, so I am calling it the “Old Nursery” Oak.
